The notorious “two week wait”, or TWW as it is often referred to in the fertility world, describes the time frame from ovulation until the start of a new cycle, or a positive pregnancy test. It takes about two weeks to reliably test for pregnancy after ovulation. These days can be long and trying when you are left wondering if this will be your month when you will see your BFP (Big Fat Positive). After months of BFN (Big Fat Negatives) this two week wait can become more and more nerve wracking. Thankfully, there are many ways you can help make this time pass!
1. Relaxation Techniques:
During the TWW, stress levels can skyrocket, adversely affecting your chances of conception. Incorporate relaxation techniques into your daily routine, such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, or gentle yoga. Relaxation aids in reducing anxiety, promoting better sleep, and positively impacting your overall well-being.
2. Distract Your Mind:
Immersing yourself in activities that bring you joy and divert your attention can work wonders in alleviating stress during this waiting period. Engage in hobbies you love, catch up with friends, binge-watch your favorite TV series, read an engrossing book, listen to a new podcast while you cook or wash dishes, or explore new interests. These distractions can help you maintain a healthy mental state.
3. Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle:
Adopting a healthy lifestyle is essential for boosting fertility and nourishing your body. Focus on consuming nutritious foods, staying hydrated, and exercising regularly. Prioritize a balanced diet rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, which can enhance your overall reproductive health.
4. Seek Support:
Remember, you’re not alone on this journey. Reach out to a support network that understands and empathizes with your struggles. Share your experiences, concerns, and emotions with your partner, family, or close friends. Additionally, joining online forums or support groups dedicated to infertility or trying to conceive (TTC) communities can provide valuable insights, advice, and a sense of solidarity.
5. Avoid Over-Googling:
With an abundance of information available at our fingertips, it’s easy to fall down the rabbit hole of internet searches. However, endlessly consuming online forums, articles, and anecdotal stories may cause unnecessary stress and confusion. Instead, rely on reputable sources and consult your healthcare provider for accurate information tailored to your situation.
